Whirlwind trip to NYC yesterday with @herbalt! Loved returning to one of my favorite places in New York. I spent countless hours at the general research division of the NYPL when I was in college. It was a place I found quiet and solace and so much information! Yesterday we were delighted with Anna Atkins cyanotypes and were happily surprised by the Stonewall 50 exhibit. We spent a day exploring free art in various locations and couldn’t be more grateful! So excited to announce this collaboration with my friend and teacher @blazingstarherbalschool !!! We are co teaching a four part Mugwort immersion series, Mugwort: Craft & Spirit, this summer!! We will deeply connect with the magic of Mugwort through dream work, crafting (papermaking, incense making, home brewing), greenbreath, sensory plant immersion and more! Snow crusted Reishi. I have visited this particular mushroom many times since last June on my hikes. They have changed with each season. Today they were covered with a sparkling layer of snow. Reishi has been such a powerful ally this past year initiating me into lots of new territory. So grateful to this beautiful mushroom. I will demonstrate how to make fun papers for your crafting projects from materials found around your home and in your recycle bin! I will share what I have learned over the past year experimenting with paper. We will talk about natural dyes, embedding seeds, plant papers, and color marbling. I will show you how to make your own simple and inexpensive deckle and mold. There will be supplies and time for crafting with handmade paper. Join us for a super fun evening! Green lap labyrinth. This ceramic double finger labyrinth is a wonderful meditation tool. For me, meditation needs to be active in some way. Tracing both pathways with my fingers at once helps to bring me to a more calm, centered place. I have worked with finger labyrinths in this way to ease my anxiety, feel more grounded, bring focus and attention to the present moment and to shift negative thought patterns. It feels as though working with the labyrinth has changed my nervous system and helped me to repattern my emotional responses. I believe that working with the labyrinth has also deepened my creative process and flow. This piece can also be used as a manifestation tool or tool for creating magic. Two people can also trace the labyrinths together, bringing them into harmony with one another. The idea to work with double finger labyrinths came from a labyrinth builder I met recently who also works with children who are on the Autism spectrum. She shared with me that tracing two labyrinths at once with each hand can be especially calming for kids with Autism. That conversation inspired me to create this meditation tool. I constructed this double labyrinth out of tan stoneware clay which gives it a weight that is also grounding as it rests in your lap. I drew both of the 7 circuit style labyrinths free hand and carved them to create the grooves for your fingers to slide in. It is glazed with a glossy nontoxic green glaze that I mixed by hand. This piece has an earthy, goddess like feel, reminding us to be in the flow. Approximate Dimensions: 10.5 inches X 5.75 inches X .25 inch thick. Ice Berg Book. Creating this custom book was such an honor. This piece was inspired by a black and white photograph taken in Greenland during WWII by my friend’s father who was stationed there. She wished to capture an important moment from her father’s history from a photo in her family archives. This was a gift for her son. I am so deeply grateful for the opportunity to co-create this book together to honor her family line. I made several of the papers in this book with the intention of capturing the colors and feel of ice and water. Recycled glass has been melted into the covers to evoke the icy cold environment.
